Art That Heals, Inspires, and Connects: Inside LaFontsee Galleries

Why Kate Meyer and LaFontsee Galleries Are a Cornerstone of West Michigan’s Creative Soul
West Michigan’s creative heartbeat is strong—and Kate Meyer, owner of LaFontsee Galleries, is one of the reasons why.
Founded in 1987 as a small frame shop, LaFontsee Galleries has grown into a respected art gallery and consulting firm representing over 80 artists, many of them local. When Kate stepped into ownership, she brought a rare blend of art, science, and community impact, making art feel approachable, personal, and deeply human.
What sets LaFontsee apart isn’t just the art—it’s how it’s used. From curating installations at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital to designing healing environments for the new Pine Rest Pediatric Behavioral Health Center, Kate and her team believe art should support wellness, spark imagination, and tell stories that matter—especially for children and families.
In Spring 2024, LaFontsee Galleries will move into a beautifully restored former brewery building in the Creston neighborhood, bringing natural light, art‑deco details, and creative energy to one of Grand Rapids’ most exciting areas. It’s another example of how West Michigan continues to invest in culture, neighborhoods, and meaningful design.
Kate’s passion for art, accessibility, and place makes LaFontsee Galleries more than a destination—it’s a reflection of what makes West Michigan so special: creativity grounded in care.
