ArtPrize 2026 Is Underway—and Grand Rapids Showed Up for Opening Night

A downtown parade, the Earth Harp, fireworks over the Grand River and a city full of energy kicked off one of West Michigan’s biggest celebrations of creativity.

ArtPrize 2026 is officially underway—and Grand Rapids knows how to make an entrance.
The Opening Celebration on September 18 turned downtown into one giant stage, with crowds gathering at Rosa Parks Circle, an ArtPrize Opening Parade moving through the city, a performance by William Close and the Earth Harp Collective on the Pearl Street Bridge, and fireworks lighting up the Grand River.
This week on Coffee with Steve & Margaux, we’re looking back at the kickoff—and reminding everyone that Opening Night was only the beginning.
That’s the magic of ArtPrize.
For a few weeks, Grand Rapids becomes more than a city with art in it.
The city becomes the art experience.
You’ll find creativity in galleries, businesses, outdoor spaces, bridges, restaurants and unexpected corners throughout downtown. And the people behind it—the artists, performers, organizers, venues and local businesses—are exactly the kind of people who make West Michigan cool.

To have a conversation with someone they may never have met otherwise.
And there’s still plenty ahead.
ArtPrize continues through October 3, leading up to its finale at Acrisure Amphitheater, where fashion, music, ballet and live performance will come together for another major celebration.
